Smittenpixels Photography

DSC_2995

A tiny sneak preview of a casual couple shoot I did awhile back (:

December. A month for me to love and to finish what I started.

Hello all, I've finally taken the leap of faith and created my very own Smittenpixels Photography FB page for my tiny business and I'm really immensely grateful and thankful for the very kind words showered and the unrelenting support given by my close friends- from primary school, to secondary to poly and uni. Thank you everyone! I've been putting off the thought of setting up a page for myself because I resent the idea of having to shamelessly promote oneself, and ultimately, I'm not a professional or anywhere near that standard but it's time for me to finish what I started and to instill a little more confidence in my own work. I've plans on setting up a new site with an all new look but sadly, my overseas trips would be hogging half of my Dec holidays so I'll probably work on it when I get back. I'll take things one step at a time.

I've made a lot of plans for December but I'm not fulfilling more than half of my "to-dos" because my schedule has been madly hectic and I can barely cope. On a brighter note, I'll be heading to KL to meet two very young, pretty and talented photographers and I'm really excited! My mom has been really excited about going KL for some shopping and nice food. It's been about a month plus of liaising via social media platforms, we're finally seeing each other tomorrow! I'll schedule some posts to be put up here while I'm away as I'd be away for most part of December (finally my well deserved break)!

This little platform means a whole great deal to me, and I'd be really happy if you could just help me to like and share my page here. THANK YOU if you have already done so! (:

To a bigger and brighter Smittenpixels Photography xx

Brunetti

Brunetti
163 Tanglin Rd  Tanglin Mall #01-35, Singapore 247933
6733 9088

1) These girls are girls whom I've known for years, ever since my days as Electrofever on Livejournal. Some of them are
girls whom I've known for at least 3 years and we finally got to meet up together. It's a pretty funny sight when everyone
whipped out their phones and DSLRs when the food came and we were saying how much our friends hate eating with us
cause they always have to wait for us to finish our photo-taking before we allow them to tuck in. Hahaha.

2) I've never had a tougher time taking photos because the entire table was taking photos together and Ruby was complaining
that my shadow was seen in her photos and we all had to make do with a certain position that we were in. No prizes for
guessing just exactly how long we took to take a decent photo /:

3) Brunetti was a total disappointment. Service was pretty bad and the desserts, which are what they are supposed to
be known for, were a total disappointment. Only my salted caramel macaron and a macaron-lookalike chocolate dessert
were good. I'm in a huge rush for time so I can't bother to recall the name of the dessert ): All in all, I doubt we would ever
make a return trip to this place. Right, girls?

4) But they say it's the company that counts and we had so much to talk. We talked till the wee hours and had to take a
cab home. It's always nice to share about our personal lives and how we feel about certain issues and it definitely brought
us closer (:

These bunch of girls, together with our new friend- Alene, would be fleaing at Scape tomorrow. We'll be at the rooftop
selling our awesome pre-loved items at dirt cheap rates so please come and support!!! <: I know how some of them are
so loved for their OOTDs, and it's your chance to grab those clothes now! So please drop by if you are in the area or if
you have the time tomorrow! We have so much to clear, I promise it'll be worth the while! <:

So see you tomorrow? xx

Portrait Session with Nicole Then

Well, I figured you guys must have missed my face so here's a tiny pic spam of me. Nawww, I kid. Here's a portrait session with Nicole Then (check out her works here) done at the end of August as a birthday gift for myself since I've always been behind the lens and it's been a long while since I've been at the front properly (instagram excluded). I was pretty apprehensive about it, but I decided to go ahead with it since I needed some proper portraits for this site anyway!  I was actually in about 4 different outfits including my own but this sweater has got to be my favorite because it feels so snuggly and it's also when I'm starting to feel more comfortable. Nicole shot on both film and digital. I'm a really hard to photograph subject because of the lack of self confidence and I'm extremely un-photogenic so it was pretty hard to get me to relax but I think Nicole did a pretty good job because some of the photos turned out better than I had expected! Kudos to that (:

My favorite shot has got to be the one with Benji covering half my face (no prizes for guessing why) but partly it's cause I really want to be photographed with something that I love all my life and I figured I really want Benji with me. I had intended to have my entire camera collection with me but the rain foiled the outdoor plans so we shot in the studio. When the time permits, I'll be getting down to a shoot with Kat with my entire collection of cameras, and I can barely wait! :D

I'd probably be updating this space a little lesser now because I've been really busy with shoots and school work and exams are round the corner. Come December I'll have something new for y'all so keep your eyes peeled! (:

Cheers to an awesome end of the year

For my loved ones

For Eileen, my best friend since 11 years old (: I complied an album of photos since we were 13/14  till her 21st party. I actually do have photos of us since we were 11 but I didn't put those photos in there. All photos by me (: All materials used are of old materials and scraps kept over the years. If you do not know, I really take pride in producing scrapbooks made with scraps entirely (: I try to refrain from buying scrap materials as they are costly, so I really like making use of every bit of junk I find that can be reused.

And a birthday message for the girl with our 14 years old faces (:

This, is for my blood sister from another mother. The girl who grew up with me over the past 21 years minus 1 month and 1 day (the difference in our birth days).

And a small collage of our photos since young! :D You could probably tell that our moms like to make us dress like twins when we were kids. Such fond memories which I'm glad neither of us has forgotten. (:

It's been a long while since I last handmade cards, but here are the two whom I would always make for without fail (even though sometimes the cards are quite badly done) because it has already been a custom for us to exchange cards on our birthdays. This year, it's a little different because it's our 21st and I wanted to do something a little different. My dear Lanna, so sorry I couldn't afford the time to do you a card for your birthday! ): I promise one next year <3

My October, November and December are so packed I can barely breathe. But I'm glad I'm about to clear the last project of my life ever, and I can then properly allocate my time to do bigger and better things. I never knew I could be this much of a workaholic. I can't wait for December, something exciting's brewing! I'll put up the Redang photos in the next post once I'm done working on them. There're so many photos I don't even know how much time I'd need to sift through them.

Hope November has been kind to y'all! It's been real awesome for me (,:

Hello!Blogshop

Model: Rebecca Weiner
Wardrobe: Hello!Blogshop

Here's an outdoor shoot I did for Hello!Blogshop a couple of months back, with my all-time favorite model and one of the nicest, if not nicest, blogshop owner ever who is extremely kind and easygoing. I like how she entrusts me with the entire shoot and just let me carry out the whole shoot comfortably. I can't wait to work with you again, Jayce! (: One of the best things that photography has brought me is the people that I got to meet, which I'm really blessed to have met so many awesome new people.

I really have to say Becs is the nicest, most down-to-earth and honest model ever. I'm not saying the rest aren't, but Becs and I hit off so well it's incredible, and we just have so much to talk about. I think we spend every minute talking except when I'm pressing the shutter. She is also one of the most appreciative and kind person I've known, and I'm just really happy to have gained a friend like her who's amazing in and out. This is dedicated to you my love, I know you'll read this <3.

Hang in there, y'all! It's midweek. It's time for me to work over the weekends though but I cannot be happier. I'll try to squeeze in another blogpost before the weekends (:

Food and moreeee food

You've all probably heard of Saveur for it's crazy down-to-earth pricing for French food. I brought my best sister- Simon, and the bf over for dinner and it was madddd. We had to wait for about half an hour before we could get a seat, which is understandable since everyone came because they're curious what this is all about and just how nice would the food taste.

Crispy Pork Belly with Poached Egg. I had this and I liked it. When the food came I was like.. o.O. I never knew the portion would be THAT small. The pork belly looks just like a bigggg ice cube. But we shared our food so at the end of it I wasn't exactly hungry anymore. I like the crisp of the skin, but overall Des and I agreed it could have been better. I find that the skin wasn't crispy enough.

Crispy Duck Confit with Orange Segments and Shittake. Simon had this and he loved it, and we all ended up ordering another plate of it. You've probably heard the raves by now, but it was by chance when we ordered this (our visit was about 4 months ago /: ) and it was really good. Trust me when I say that, since it's coming from someone who has tried Duck Confit before and didn't like it because I generally do not like duck meat. The portion is undeniably small, and it definitely wouldn't fill up a guy's tummy but well, it's value for money. I liked the mashed potato beneath too (:

We had the Angel Hair Pasta with Tiger Prawns, and I really like it too. Yes again, ridiculously small portion (but again, value for money) but it was nice and we all liked it. I've other friends who loved their pasta too ^_^ It's $3.90 for one!

Lastly, we shared another Angel Hair Pasta with Sakura Ebi. I just realized we ordered quite a lot and there're a number of repeated dishes of what has already been ordered. This is also $3.90 and Simon and I shared it cause we just needed to have more of the pasta, and we were very curious what exactly is Sakura Ebi to only realize it's basically shrimps but it tastes a little different. I wouldn't say it isn't nice but if you don't like it, then you just wouldn't like the pasta cause it's full of sakurra ebi taste.

When I first heard about Joan Bowen cafe from my cousin, I wanted very much to drop by for a visit because their concept is for a good cause. So I suggested bringing Kat here since it's nearby her area as well (: This cafe is opened as an arts themed cafe and culinary centre to provide training for teenagers with special needs and the cafe is named after their daughter (Joan Bowen) who was also born with special needs. The kitchen and service crew are made up of these teenagers with special needs.

If you are in search of gastronomical experience, this would probably not be on your list, but I'd have to say that food is pretty decent. We took a long time to get to the cafe cause we got lost in the private estate area and we almost couldn't find our way out again haha.

I had the Seafood Aglio Olio which was honestly... not that good. The pasta was a little overcooked and the squids weren't fresh squids. Overall, it was only average.

I can't quite remember the name of Kat's dish, and I can't seem to find it on the menu so I think it's an off the menu dish. I tried a bit of hers, and I like it (: If I didn't remember wrongly it's breaded chicken thigh with tomato sauce and cheese, and the serving was huge. One of the server recommended this to Kat (:

This is Kat! She was the photographer for The Tinsel Rack if you hadn't known (: I love how we have endless amount of things to talk about. It's a pity how busy they both of us are, I hope meet ups can be made more frequent. ):

Lastly, it's Victor's Kitchen! A gem just 3-5 minutes walk from my school that I NEVER knew until recently (and I'm graduating soon -.-). I've always known that there is this dim sum shop at Sunshine Plaza that is always full but never once stopped to realize it's Victor's. Then, my friends brought me there quite a couple of months back and I'm hooked, so I brought Des there to try!

I love love love the porridge there. This is the Minced Pork with Dried Veg Porridge, which we shared! Please do not get a full bowl on your own. You might end up being too full for the rest of the yummy stuffs! The pricing is extremely affordable as well (:

Crispy Golden Shrimp Rolls! Yummy, it's the boy's favorite and I really like it too (:

This is the Chicken in White Wine and I loveeee this! (:

Plus my favorite dim sum of all time- the Pork Ribs with Black Bean!

and..... the Liu Sha Bao!!!! ^_^ Love it when the warm salted egg custard flows into my mouth. My friends and I love it. Speaking of which I'm really craving badly for it now ): I honestly can't be the best person to give my verdict because I've heard a thousand times that Swee Choon has good dim sums etc and I still haven't been there. But for now, this would suffice!

I hope you guys like the food porn spam.... which is actually an attempt to consolidate some of the place I've visited for noms over the past 3-4 months with my loved ones (otherwise these photos might be stashed in my hard drive and never get to see the day light). It also dawned upon me while typing this that I haven't documented any of my friends' faces (except for Kat :D) because I'm busy taking photos of the food. Mental note to self: Take photos of who I am dining with.

But anyways, I've been told a couple of times by the people I've gotten to know lately that they have no idea how I looked like after ploughing through a few pages on my blog because they can barely find photos of me /: I can't promise more personal shots (of my faces especially) because of esteem issues but if you are curious how I look like, you can always check Instagram out..... It's the only place I let narcissism take over since filters are awesome for making people look better than they really look hahaha.  I'll probably do a a couple of posts of my recent shoots first before I put up the photos of beautiful Redang and everything else!

Hope it doesn't bore you! Thank you for reading (:
